Formulary for Pt/Pd Printing

Ferric Oxalate Solution (25%)

Solution A:

  • 25 gm ferric oxalate powder
  • 2 gm oxalic acid – may increase printing speed and Dmax
  • 88ml distilled water at room temperature
  • stir constantly until solids have completely dissolved (~8 hours)
  • add distilled water to bring to 100ml if necessary

Solution B:

  • add 0.6% potassium chlorate to Solution A (e.i. 0.6 gm to 100 ml, or .15 gm to 25 ml)

Platinum Solution (20% Potassium tetrachloroplatinate) (K2PtCl4)

  • 80 ml distilled water @ 100°F
  • 20 gm potassium chloroplatinite
  • distilled water to 100 ml

Palladium Solution (15% Sodium tetrachloropalladate) (Na2PdCl4)

  • 80 ml distilled water @ 100°F
  • 7 gm sodium chloride
  • 10 gm palladium chloride
  • distilled water to 110 ml

“Na2” Platinum Solution (20% Sodium hexachloroplatinate) (Na2PtCl6)

  • 20 ml distilled water @ 100°F
  • 5 gm sodium hexachloroplatinate
  • distilled water to 25 ml

Potassium Oxalate Developer (25-35%)

  • 800 ml distilled water @120°F
  • 250-350 gm potassium oxalate
  • distilled water to 1 liter

Ammonium Citrate Developer (25%)

  • 800 ml distilled water @ 68°F
  • 250 gm ammonium citrate
  • distilled water to 1 liter

EDTA/Citric Acid/Sodium Sulfite Clearing Bath

  • 1 liter water
  • 1 tbsp EDTA (tetrasodium)
  • 1 tbsp Citric Acid (C6H8O7)
  • 1 tbsp Sodium Sulfite (Na2SO3)
